Do you ...
Then become an NRA Certified Instructor! Perhaps you are already helping family, friends and/or co-workers with their shooting? If so, it's time to "make it official." Program Length, Format & Cost All new NRA Instructor Candidates must complete the NRA Basic Instructor Training (aka "BIT") Course followed by at least one instructor course. For example, to become an NRA Certified Pistol Instructor, you would complete the NRA BIT Course and then the NRA Pistol Instructor Course. This set of two courses can be delivered across two long days or a 1/2 day plus two days of training. Tuition for the instructor courses varies depending upon the course selected, length and location of the training. Tuition for the NRA Basic Instructor Training (BIT) Course is $100 and it includes the required NRA books. The NRA Pistol Instructor course is $295 and the required NRA books are included. There is typically a range fee of about $20 plus nominal NRA processing and certification fees of $13.50 for members and $21 for non-members. Tuition for the other instructor courses varies slightly as do the length of those courses and is shown below on the registration form. Multiple NRA Instructor Courses / Certifications Available We offer the full spectrum of NRA Instructor courses:
Candidates also complete a pre-course assessment consisting of the student-level written exam, safe gun handling demonstration with different handgun actions and brief shooting qualification. You DO NOT need to be a Distinguished Expert by any means but you must have an understanding of marksmanship fundamentals, and be able to demonstrate it, before you can teach others to shoot in a safe and effective manner. NRA Basic Instructor Training (BIT) Course Required All NRA Instructor Candidates must complete the NRA Basic Instructor Course (BIT) before they can attend one of the other NRA Instructor courses. BIT is not a standalone course or certification. Existing instructors must repeat BIT before enrolling in another instructor courses if it has been more than a year since their last BIT course date. Please call to discuss your situation. NRA Student Courses Not Required for Instructor Candidates (Except PPOTH) Instructor Candidates are not required to complete the student level course before attending in the instructor course version except for NRA Personal Protection Outside The Home. For example, an NRA Pistol Instructor Candidate with acceptable handgun experience does not have to complete the NRA Basic Pistol Student Course before enrolling in the NRA BIT and NRA Pistol Instructor courses. However, an existing NRA Pistol and Personal Protection In The Home Instructor must complete the NRA Personal Protection Outside The Home Student Course before attending the instructor version of that course. Scheduled & On-Request Courses You will find instructor courses listed on our regular class schedule on a regular basis. However, we also offer instructor courses on a request basis in the Denver metro area and elsewhere in Colorado plus Wyoming, Wisconsin, Florida and other states. Depending upon the instructor course selected, a certain minimum number of participants may be required for locations other than in the Denver metro area. For example, if you have a group that would like to train together to become NRA Certified Rifle Instructors, we may be able to put together a special program for you in your area.
